Deanna's Kitchen Revisited

It has been a while since I last patronized Deanna's Kitchen. On my last visit, I had Prawn Noodles. I remembered that very moment when they asked me for the size of prawn that I would like. You can read more details in this post here.

Recently, my wife and I were cracking our heads on what to get for our daughter's birthday lunch.

We had chicken a few days ago, so chicken was out.

We had Indian Rojak and Briyani that week, so Indian food was out.

My wife cooked Kambing Masak Hitam or Mutton in Black Stew quite recently, so anything with mutton was out.

Then my wife mention seafood. She was toying with the idea of having seafood lunch. Then Deanna's Kitchen came to my mind. I suggested to her and she googled while I continued my drive.

Shortly after, she agreed. So off we went...

They are still located at the same venue, so it was an easy find. Just that with social distancing measures somewhat in place, seats are more limited that usual.

My wife bought 2 sets of seafood platters.(for 5 adults, 5 kids) to go.

When we got home, we immediately unpacked and prepare for our daughter's birthday feast.

packed in a large plastic container are 1 lobster, 2 crayfish

when we removed the lobster and crayfish, there's more seafood with noodles and kang kong at the bottom.

We bought 2 sets of seafood platters to go. At the first taste after we've reheated just the soup, we thought it was rather bland. A far cry from what I had experienced years ago. Then I suggested to my wife to include the seafood during the reheat. So she put in lobster, crayfish, prawns, etc.. everything we got from that plastic container, into the soup and reheat.
We didn't include the seafood during the first reheat because we were worried the texture might be too soft.
The taste was so much better, so much richer. Much closer to what I had experienced previously.

There are some changes in the location of outlets. I took a print screen of their outlets from their website here. Just click on the picture below to get to their website.

I would strongly recommend you go to their website and facebook page to get the latest updates and promotions.

Delicious Creamy Chocolate Cake by Chocolate Origin

I first heard about Chocolate Origin sometime back when they announced their success in obtaining MUIS Halal Certification. So for my youngest daughter's birthday this year, my wife decided to get a chocolate cake from Chocolate Origin.

We went to their outlet in North Point City. They have chocolate ice cream and cholocate cake, as you can see from their display counter.

The items we saw at this outlet includes
1. Original Chocolate Cake
2. Dark Chocolate Cake
3. Lava Cake
4. Dark Gelato and
6. Dark Truffle.

This is what my wife bought.

What I love about this Chocolate Origin's chocolate cake is that it uses dark chocolate, giving it that slightly bitter taste. It is also creamy yet not too sweet, making me less guilty to eat such cakes.

The certification from MUIS expires by end November 2020 so just bear in mind.

Would I buy from Chocolate Origin again?
Yes, I would (if it's still Halal certified)

Where to find Chocolate Origin outlets?
The one that I've went to was in North Point city, 930 Yishun Avenue 2, #B2-143, Singapore 769098.
They do have other outlets but I suggest you follow their Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/chocolateorigin/ or visit their website at https://order.chocolate-origin.com/en_SG for latest updates.

I'm not sure if they are affected by Covid-19 measures or what are their plans for their outlets, etc, so the best way is to follow their FB page and website.

My Favourite Place for Kambing Soup, Sop Tulang and Mee Goreng in Singapore

Yes, I know there are many who will disagree with me when it comes to Kambing Soup, Sop Tulang and Mee Goreng. Each category will have its own fans from different outlets ranging for Adam Road Hawker Centre and Boon Keng Hawker Centre (Kambing Soup) to Beach Road Hawker Centre (Sop tulang)

As you know, taste is subjective. For me, this stall is packed with the right recipes. Even their staff are friendly and that is another matter that, to me, is attractive to me.

If you re wondering where to get these 3 sinful dishes, it's from Iqbal Soup Kambing located at Geylang Serai Market, stall # 02-128.

The first dish I've tried from this stall is their Kambing Soup. It's not too strong on spice and rich. The mutton pieces is quite generous and bigger than those served by most stalls.

The second dish I've tried was their Bihun Goreng(Fried Bee Hoon). It's spicy and filled with pieces of mutton and I'm not talking minced meat.

This is the Mee Kuah that I tried earlier this year...

The mee kuah was spicy, at it should be, and there's pieces of fatty mutton meat in there that's gonna fill you up for quite a while.

Recently, I bought their mee goreng and kuay teow goreng to go.

Mee Goreng

Kuay Teow Goreng

As I was buying for 2 adults and 3 kids, I requested for extra meat for an additional $1 each. Just take a look at the meat.

It's satisfying and filling, more than enough for the 5 of us.

Will I buy from them again?

Yes, for sure. I do apologize as I did not take pictures of the Kambing Soup and Sop Tulang. Will add them as soon as I can.

Where is this stall located?

It is located at 1 Geylang Serai, #02-128, Singapore 402001. Basically level 2 of Geylang Serai Market.

It is open from 9am to 9pm daily.

Simple and Delicious Chicken Rice from NurFir Nasi Ayam - Yishun

I was on my way home when my wife messaged me to get food for lunch. Since I was already in Seletar area and heading towards Sembawang, I decided to make a quick stop to Yishun Industrial area to get some cheap and delicious fix of chicken rice.

Where else can I get that but NurFir Nasi Ayam stall.

What makes Nurfir Nasi Ayam a little special for me is that it also serves unique chicken related delicacies. While most chicken rice stall sells chicken giblets, this stall has a few items more that you don't usually find on most chicken rice stall.

Here is a list of what they sell..

Yup.. they have fried chicken skin. They have been selling fried chicken skin way before KFC came up with their chicken skin as a dish.

In addition to that, NurFir even have fried bishop nose.

So for lunch, I bought 4 packets of roasted chicken rice, $2 worth of chicken liver and $2 worth of chicken skin. A good $14 for family lunch.

When I first time patronized this stall, I found their rice to be a little hard yet still consumable. This time, it's much more improved and I happy with their rice.
The rice is very fragrant and chicken is just crispy. It's chilli sauce is a little tangy and my kids loved it. My family and I were very satisfied with the meal and YES, we will buy from them again. And we do recommend that you give their chicken rice a try.

Nurfir Nasi Ayam stall is located at Blk 2 Yishun Industrial St 1, Yishun 768159. You may also check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/nurfirnasiayam for latest updates.

Delicious Kebab with Excellent Service from Turkish Kebab House

I received a text from my wife this morning. She said she felt like having kebab to break fast. Well, it's not the first time this week she told me she wanted kebab. So in the afternoon, she was already browsing the popular kebab joint. I told her why not Turkish Kebab House.

I felt Turkish Kebab House would be an ideal choice because;
1. We've tried their food before so we know what to expect.
2. They provide free delivery service to places in Khatib, Yishun, Sembawang, Canberra, Admiralty & Woodlands area with a minimum $30 purchase.
3. They also sell desserts like Kunefe and Baklava.

Don't believe me? See it for yourself..

So I sent a whatsapp message to one of the number provided, just checking if they are still able to take in orders especially during that time of the day. After I got a 'Yes' response, I texted my orders...

1. 1 chicken pita
2. 1 beef pita
3. 1 butter rice - chicken
4. 1 beef burito roll
5. 1 kunefe

Everything costs me $41.00, paid via PayNow.

so payment made at 5.16pm and at about 5.52pm, he texted me to inform that he is will be arriving in 10 minutes.

I love such seamless, simple and straightforward process. No need to kill braincells manouvering complicated menus, no need to deal with complicated customer service chat robots, just straightforward simple process from ordering to payment to delivery.

Before this, we attempted to buy from another provider. It was so troublesome. They son't have options to change from chicken to beef and it took a while for someone to respond to our query. By the time we made the order, they could not accept our orders because that delivery slot have been taken. After all that complicated, high tech process, I got my order rejected. Moreover, they don't even sell any desserts.

Fortunately, there is Turkish Kebab House.

Then it was time to break fast... and I totally forgot to take photos until my kids were already munching the food away..

So here's some photos of the half eaten food from Turkish Kebab House. This meal is shared between 3 adults and 3 kids aged 2 to 9 years old and it's more than enough.

And of course, we had our Kunefe after Terawih prayers. Kunefe is a sweet cheese pastry made from noodle-like pastry and unsalted melting cheese. This is a common dessert available at most middle-east and Turkish cafes and restaurant

We really enjoyed this meal and simplicity from Turkish Kebab House.

Turkish Kebab House is located at

1 North Drive, Northpoint City, south wing, #B2-125, Singapore 768019

If you can't locate it, it's on the same lane with Swee Heng Bakery, just further down.

The following photographs were taken some months ago when I first came across their shop. Did not manage to do a review because all kebabs were gone before I could take any photos. It just shows you that the outlet exist and I've been there. If you wish to see their current menu, check out the earlier photos.

You may also visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/turkishkebabhouseSG/ or their Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/turkishkebabhousesg

Will I buy from them again? It's a definite YES.

Note: Just to remind all my readers and visitors to this blog that none of the posts in this blog are paid advertisement. I'm doing it because I really enjoyed their food and also to support Halal F&B businesses that I've patronized by sharing my own personal experience.

Delicious and Cheapest Epok-Epok (Curry Puff) You Can Ever Find

What was your worse experience when it comes to buying epok-epok or curry puff?

I remembered my disappointment when it comes to buying sardine epok-epok. They have more onions and air than sardines. So that's kind of putting me off and I will avoid buying epok-epok unless it was recommended.

My wife bought from this stall about 2 months ago. She bought sardines and normal epok-epok. It was delicious, I tell you.

A month later, I went back to the same place to buy from this stall. This stall is named Yang's Epok-Epok, stall no 4, located at Bedok Corner.

Here's a breakdown of my experience..

1. There was a long queue.

2. In front of the stall, I saw one makcik (Malay auntie) diligently flattening a dough on her palm and placing diced curry potato in it. Then she skillfully formed the twirls at the end of that 'raw' epok-epok. This means it's freshly made.

3. Then I saw another lady scooping fried epok-epok from the wok and placed in onto a strainer. This is a good sign... meaning it's freshly cooked.

4. Then I saw an A4-sized poster with a clock on it, indicating when it would be ready. It also indicates that they do NOT take reservations. This means it's a hot seller and if you're unlucky, you will have to wait for the next batch.

Can you guess how much is an epok-epok? It's 50 cents ($0.50) each and customers are buying in 5s and 10s!

I bought 10 potato and 10 sardine epok-epok, brought it home(it was during the Covid-19 Circuit Breaker so no eating out).

Just look at it..
I do apologize to all readers because I really forgot to take the 'inside' photo. It all happened so quickly. I takes longer to queue than to finish this.

And it was worth it!

It's freshly made!
It's freshly fried!
It's cheap and most importantly,
It's delicious!

Will I return to buy again?
For sure. I do wish they could take orders though..

Just head down to Bedok Corner Food located at
Bedok Corner Hawker Centre Stall #4, 1 Bedok Road, Singapore 469572.

Opening Hours
12pm to 7pm daily, closed on Mondays.

UPDATE

It's August 2020 and I managed to get my hands on these epok-epok again. This time, I remembered to take more pictures.

Sardine Epok-Epok

Potato Epok-Epok

No changes to its opening hours. The queues are just as long.

Rahim's Muslim Food - Unique Mee Rebus and Mee Soto

Rahim's Muslim Food has a special place in my heart. I first came across this stall while I was at Kovan area. There used to be a building called Kovan Centre, located somewhere between Serangoon Stadium and Serangoon Shopping Centre.

Whenever I need to go to Serangoon Shopping Centre or RHB Bank or even Kovan Centre's Shop n Save , I would surely go there with an empty stomach, with the full intent of eating either Mee Rebus or Mee Soto from Rahim's Muslim Food.

Then, they moved to Upper Serangoon, later on to Ang Mo Kio Central and currently at 453A Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, locally known as Chong Boon Market.

Before they moved to Chong Boon Market

I've tried both their Mee Soto and Mee Rebus. Both are delicious and very filling. For some reason, I cant locate the photo of mee rebus i ate.

Mee Soto, with added chicken thigh, bagedil(potato patty) and kicap cili(black soy sauce with crushed cili padi)

will I go there again? For sure I will. Rahim's Muslim Food has been around for a long time and I never doubted the quality of his food.
