Seafood By The Sea - Rasa Istimewa Woodlands Waterfront Restaurant

Whenever I think about dining seafood by the sea, my thoughts will bring me back to the early 90s where I had my seafood dining at a restaurant in Kukup, Malaysia. Today, that memory is overtaken by a brand new experience right on the shores of Singapore!

Right on the shores of Woodlands Waterfront is a jetty which leads you to this restaurant, Rasa Istimewa Woodlands Waterfront Restaurant.

The downside of this restaurant is that it is not very accessible via public transport. There is a bus that stops on the main road. Secondly, there is not much shelter on the walkway and the jetty. Meaning if you are caught in the rain between the restaurant and your car, you will get wet.

visitors, be warned. No shelter.

Rasa Istimewa has another outlet in Choa Chu Kang which is named as Rasa Istimewa C2K Restaurant. IT specializes in crab dishes such as chilli crab, pepper crab and salted egg crab.

It was a Thursday evening, so the restaurant is not that crowded but do be warned, on Fridays, weekends, holidays and mothers' day, this place is packed like crazy. If you do not have a booking on those peak hours, you will be in for a long wait.

This restaurant serves satay, otah, western food, barbecued fish etc. Generally, they specialise in seafood dining.

The Food
On this visit, we ordered
  • steamed rice
  • chilli crabs
  • sweat and sour fried garoupa
  • kailan
  • Oat prawns
The chilli crabs were quite big and tasted fresh. There was a lot of gravy that you could eat it with bread. As for the garoupa, as the name suggests, has a sweet and sour taste that complements the spicy chilli crab.

The kailan tasted fresh. The prawns were juicy and sweet. I think it has something to do with the oats.

For dessert, we had ice kachang, it was a huge serving so bear this in mind if you wish to have ice kachang for dessert. It was big enough for 3 adults.

The whole place was clean and airconditioned. The sound of the waves and the winds created a very interesting atmosphere.

Will I be back again?
For sure. This place is not recommended for solo dining though.

Where is it located?
It is located at 6A Admiralty Road West, Woodlands Waterfront Park.

It's opening hours are 2pm to midnight from Mondays to Fridays. On weekends, it will be from 12pm to midnight.

Suggestion: Bring an umbrella. It will provide you with shade when it is sunny and shelter you when its raining.
