In Singapore, we are really blessed with tonnes of good food. Having a small local market did not seem to stop budding foodpreneurs from whipping their specialty to the market. However, one of the main issues that bug customers big time is drop in standard; service standard, quality of food, taste and the list goes one.

So it is important that food bloggers make a return visit just to see where the standards lie.

This week, my wife and I decided to dine at Rasa Istimewa Woodlands Waterfront Restaurant. While we were walking on the jetty, my eldest daughter said she wanted to eat Chilli Crab. Since there were so few of us, we decided to drop the steamed fish (which my wife wanted) and go for chilli crab instead.

So we ordered the following;
1. Fried rice with seafood and salted fish
2. Sweet and Sour Fish slices
3. Chilli Crab.

Have you been to IMM in Jurong East? Right at level 1 is a very unique restaurant that offers affordable and home-style dishes in claypots. The restaurant settings were set in a nostalgic old Chinatown design that will bring you back to the 60s.

As I entered the restaurant, I was attended to a young, Chinese lady who handed me a 'newspaper' which turned out to be the menu. I thought it was a creative move, to make your menu into a newspaper and let your customer bring back and even pass it around to others.

Whenever I think about dining seafood by the sea, my thoughts will bring me back to the early 90s where I had my seafood dining at a restaurant in Kukup, Malaysia. Today, that memory is overtaken by a brand new experience right on the shores of Singapore!

Right on the shores of Woodlands Waterfront is a jetty which leads you to this restaurant, Rasa Istimewa Woodlands Waterfront Restaurant.

Sumptuous And Super Filling Nasi Ambeng at Ambeng Cafe by Ummi Abdullah

It was a very humid Tuesday afternoon, my wife and I had a meeting with one of the renovation contractors for our new home. It was a long meeting and it ended about after 2pm. By that time, I was famished.

Since my wife said she wanted to drop by East Village to buy her favourite red velvet cookies, I thought it would be a great idea to drop by the famous Ambeng Cafe. 

Ambeng Cafe is well known for sumptuous Malay food and of course, its long queues. Every single time I visited East Village, I would see a long winding queue at the entrance of this eatery.

After collecting the cakes from Sucre Delices, I received a text from my wife, informing me to get lunch. I drove over to Changi Village as it has been many years since I've been there and getting some of their well-known nasi lemak for lunch is definitely not a bad idea.

Unfortunately, parking was tough. I could not get parking at all and there were lines of cars anxiously waiting to pounce on any available space. I drove over the Pasir Ris Downtown East and I headed over to the food court.

The food court is known as Asli Village. 'Asli' means natural or original. Asli Village has a large number of stalls with local cuisines, western food, east indian food and of course, Satay.

One particular stall attracted my attention;

Melaka is a well known province in Malaysia, full of culture and history, birthplace of some of the region's finest warriors and silat practitioners. One of the dishes I will always have when I go to Melaka is Asam Pedas.
